Abstract:

Composition, absorption and toxicity of intestinal gas in paralitic ileus was investigated experimentally in dogs. There was a high content of carbon dioxide, hydrogen and hydrogen sniphide. The rate of absorption of these cases from the intestine diminished in the course of the ileus. These gases — if absorbed into the blood — increase the metabolic acidosis.
