Abstract:

The paper addresses two thermoviscoelastic systems arising in materials science: the fourth order system of viscosity capillarity type describing structural phase transitions in solids and the classical second order system for heat conductive Kelvin-Voigt type materials. Both systems represent the balance laws of linear momentum and energy with appropriate constitutive equations. The known results of these systems for constant caloriic heat and temperature-dependent caloriic value are reviewed. The latest results concerning the existence and uniqueness of often repeatable solutions are presented.
