Search for: [Abstract = %22The main purpose of the paper is to identify and evaluate the phenomenon of suburbanization in terms of sustainable spatial development of selected rural communes within the Bia%C5%82ystok Functional Urban Area. Depending on data availability%2C analysis covers the years 2004%E2%80%922016. Particular attention was drawn on the impact of this process on establishing spatial order. By employing 8 indicators%2C suburbanization rate was calculated for all rural communes comprising the Bia%C5%82ystok Functional Urban Area. Further analyzes were carried out for two communes%2C i.e. Juchnowiec Ko%C5%9Bcielny and Dobrzyniewo Du%C5%BCe%2C characterized by the highest intensity of the suburbanization process. Detailed analyses have indicated that both communes do not fully use the tools for shaping the spatial order and sustainable development. This is confirmed by a very low planning coverage %5C(approximately 8%25 in Juchnowiec Ko%C5%9Bcielny and less than 2%25 in Dobrzyniewo Du%C5%BCe%5C)%2C as well as a large number of administrative decisions issued. Moreover%2C high values of population absorptive capacity prove that in the process of planning spatial development%2C reasonable demographic conditions were not taken into consideration in examined communes.%22]
