TY - GEN N1 - 24 cm N2 - The phenomenon of outdoor advertising degrading the cultural landscape is especially alarming in areas that are under protection because of their landscape value. Those are the areas which experience a lot of pressure on account of the development of such functions as tourism, recreation and housing and their related services, which is closely associated with intensive outdoor advertising. The Lednica Cultural Park is an example of such area. This research sought to identify the scale of problems caused by the presence of advertisements in the study area. The results include the selection of places most heavily degraded by advertising, and the identification of tendencies in the way ads are located, their forms, areas, impact on the environment, and perception. The conclusions can help in defining the rules and conditions for managing public and private spaces in the rural areas for use in an advertising policy. Given the explosive transformation of the modern countryside, there is an urgent need to find effective tools and methods to protect its cultural heritage. This protection cannot be limited to "freezing" historical forms; it should involve proactive measures affecting the quality of the landscape and the functionality of those areas, which can significantly increase their development potential. The relevant landscape research was conducted in the Długa Goślina village in the Wielkopolska Province. After identifying resources of the village's cultural landscape and determining state of their behaviour and analysing planning documents, an attempt was made to identify the opportunities and the threats to the area’s development. The aim of the research was to identify activities within the framework of village renewal, as potential development scenarios, possibly also implemented in other settlement units. Długa Goślina has features typical of a Wielkopolska village: the agricultural function limited to residential and service functions, which causes a deformation of the historical village pattern. But in terms of resources, its cultural landscape has a considerable diversity of values, which when properly interpreted and developed, can be an important basis of local development. For the village under study, preliminary conservation works were proposed. Once the public accepts these activities and effective implementation of them, it will be possible to prepare a scenario for the development of cultural tourism. Given the functioning of agricultural holdings and close market, optional or parallel development would be based on the concept of organic farming. It seems that the proposed development directions for Długa Goślina have a universal character and, when properly adapted to the local conditions prevailing in other settlements, can be used in village renewal projects in Wielkopolska. Intense urbanization of suburban areas makes them more exposed to rapid loss of these resources than in the case of units located peripherally. In this context, the identification of the existing values in the suburban communes as well as their protection with the use of planning tools seem to be more important. The aim of this study was to identify the level of awareness of landscape resources in the communes of the Poznań agglomeration and confrontation between methods of space management and provisions in municipal spatial policy documents. As an example three communes were selected: Dopiewo, Tarnowo Podgórne and Stęszew - located in the western part of the Poznan County, in the area of intensive development of suburban settlements. The paper focused on the analysis of natural and landscape resources, with particular emphasis on forest areas and water reservoirs. Research was undertaken to recognize changes in the land use model and its dynamics in the vicinity of these areas, which in communes’ spatial planning documents are often described as the most valuable from the point of view of existing resources. There were clearly defined differences in the spatial policies of individual communes in the context of the conservation of these resources. Concurrently, there has been an increasing interest in the issues of transforming functional and spatial structure of the village. Functions of rural settlement units are primarily identified based upon analysis of changing tendencies concerning employment structure, land use and infrastructure accessibility. Significant changes have also occurred in the landscape and perception of post-agricultural space. The rural area begins to resemble a city (hub), also in terms of social and living conditions. There is a rise in the standard of living (positive effect) and a widespread of urban style of being (a negative effect). These processes are particularly intense in the villages of the suburban area, as they are being absorbed into the spatial and functional structures of the city. The aim of the research is to determine the functional and spatial differences and similarities among settlement units of the Poznań agglomeration based on the analysis of planning documents as well as spatial and cartographic data. Old villages were selected for the research – currently, self-government housing estates in Poznań (auxiliary units) and villages that are adjacent to the city border. Contemporary changes in the functions of settlement units have been identified in a diverse range and extent. However, in general spatial changes exhibit numerous similarities. The most important spatial decisions affecting the functional and spatial structure of settlement units are undertaken at the commune level. It is however necessary to coordinate these activities also at a higher level and at various scales of planning. In particular, there is a need for a an integrated approach to the management of spatial and landscape resources within strongly connected areas such as urban agglomerations.
