 abstract={The EU funds were an important factor for intensification of investment processes. The plans of new developments have commonly been opposed by local people. The subject of study comprises nine cases of NIMBY conflicts related to controversial investments’ sitting, which took place in rural areas. The goal of the study is assessment of consequences resulting from NIMBY syndrome occurrence in the analyzed local societies. The main method of data gathering were in-depth interviews conducted with protest leaders, village leaders, municipalities’ authorities and others, documents and other materials published by the conflict actors. The research shows how the planned sitting of controversial investment has become a catalyst of social participation and how the social participation influenced the investment sitting process. A scheme illustrating impact of NIMBY conflict on local society was created.},
