Abstract:

The continuity of function that is locality determined forms the basis for the sustainability of communities. In this article, I study a community founded on a socio-professional relationship with the glassworks. We have been observing the indicators of wide-region acculturation since 1990. Field research verified the function of local culture in the glassworker colony. The changes of this function indicate adaptation, integration and regression within the community in question. The Utekáč glassworker colony was developing for nearly 300 years with fluctuating periods of vitality. The recent developments indicate a regression that disrupted the basic function of sustainability. The article presents ethnographical field notes regarding the traditional culture and the ethnological interpretation in socio-cultural adaptation periods. The time boundaries were the 19th century for adaptation and the 20th century for acculturation; the regression started at the dawning of the 21st century
