Abstract:

This paper contains information regarding several geotechnical standards with emphasis on Eurocode 7. Both intrusive and non-destructive methods exist, but these are not routinely practiced and their interpretation requires expert knowledge. They have the potential to explore shallow layers of soil, other soil and structural components, as well as relicts of past human activity. Two case studies are discussed and the methods of soil appraisal and non-destructive prospecting are reviewed
