Description:

Photography (scan from a slide). The photo shows participants of night rituals (vigilance) during the annual feast of Mommai Mata organized by kachchi rabari , but also take part in it dheberiya rabari . Inside the temple there is a small image of the goddess , to the left you can see carvings of other deities painted in red . On the wall of the temple camel is painted in red ochre and some fabric that hangs over the entrance ( torana ) . In the foreground you can see a man in a white turban ( dheberiya ) , and in the depths another - in black and purple turban and two young women in a red- orange veils ( kachchi ) . Picture is taken during the rite of Mommai Mata, which takes place at night near the town of Lodai. Participants gather around the shrine which lies on the outskirts of the village - men are sitting on the shrine , singing and playing drums , falling into a trance, dance , and women are sitting on the ground all around. The ritual lasts all night - from dusk to dawn. The ceremony takes place in the month Chaitra Sud 7
