Object description:

The photo shows a village family shrine in honor of Mommai Mata. Inside, on selected days of the full moon, rituals are dedicated to the goddesses according to the Hindu calendar. The altar has a more modern decor, as in place of the figurines there are oil prints with representations of Hindu mythology. At the top of the altar and on the left side of the wall, there is a sign of a trident (trisul) denoting Siwa. A fairly large number of red dots are painted on the altar vault, it is a sign of the goddess. At the bottom, in front of the altar, there are small metal vessels for an oil lamp, red fabrics, and coconuts offered to the goddess. A double-sided drum (dhol) hangs from the ceiling on the right and metal vessels for sacrifice on the left. The drum is used during night rituals to give rhythm to singing and dancing. For Rabari shepherds, Mommai mata is a protective goddess who rides a camel.
