Object description:

The photo shows the shrine in honor of Mommai Mata (here they are also called Bhed Mata). The door to the shrine is open, and inside you can see the image of the goddess Mommai Mata dressed in a festive coat, the same as the Rabari women wear at that time. The eyes and the crown (?) are marked on the head. On the left side you can see the sign of a trident (sign of Siva) and a small metal trident (trishul). Metal vessels and metal bells stand in front of the goddess's legs. There are symbolic torana above the entrance and on both sides of it. The door consists of metal bars. They are closed at night. In front of the entrance, a shepherd is dressed in a costume characteristic of kachchi rabari. In front of him lies a drum with two sides (dholak) used at night to give rhythm to singing and dancing. On the right side, there are two women dressed as Rabari (kachchi). The nightly ceremonies in honor of Mommai mata take place in Chakar, actually in the valley outside the village. The ceremony took place during a full moon and lasted all night from dusk to sunrise. Singing and dancing to the accompaniment of drums lasted until morning. The ceremony was attended mainly by kachchi, but also dheberiya rabari from the surrounding villages.
