The Germans left Berlinek in haste in January 1945%5C%3B by February%2C Polish residents had taken possession of the apartments. In this essay%2C I reconstruct the image of how the new%2C Polish residents were moving into the apartments at Berlinek immediately after the Germans%E2%80%99 escape from the city%2C as recorded in those residents%E2%80%99 memory and imagination. The key to anthropological investigation has been provided by the accounts collected from persons who%2C being very young at that time%2C had settled at Berlinek with their families%2C as well as those who learnt about the course of events from the stories told by their parents or parents%5C-in%5C-law%22]
