Publications are useful for in-depth analysis and interpretation of different aspects of culture. Intentionally destroyed weapons of defeated enemies are believed to have been deposited as offerings. One example of this way of thinking in reference to Thorsberg is the presence, almost without exception, of the left shoes. This example of monosandalism, which appears in different cultures starting with the ancient Greeks, is not pars pro toto evidence of human offerings, especially in view of finds of this kind from Alken Enge near Illerup Ådal L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/85636/PDF/WA308_91704_P320_Pars-pro-toto-i-mono_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - Pars pro toto and monosandalism (based on the Thorsberger Moor monograph) J2 - Archeologia Polski T. 63 (2018) PY - 2018 EP - 182 KW - Scandinavia KW - Thorsberger Moor KW - Illerup Ådal KW - Alken Enge KW - peat-bog offering sites KW - weapon offerings KW - human offerings KW - monosandalism A1 - Baranowski, Tadeusz A2 - Zych, Iwona. It is an excellent example of the importance of the archaeological context, without which any interpretation is doomed to be based on more or less probable hypotheses. The author does not believe it possible today to attribute these „bracteates” to Vsevolod II Olgovič or to Mstislav Vladimirovič, at least for now; he is also critical of any consideration in this context of the seal attributed to Michael Oleg Svyatoslavič, as this artifact may very well be a modern fake. He shares the doubts of some researchers regarding the authenticity of newer finds of single „bracteates”. He favors distinguishing three separate „bracteate” types: the first, bearing the so-called sign of the Rurikids, should be viewed as being of 11th c. date (it resembles the sign on coins of Svyatopolk I), whereas the other two, both with representations of the archangel Michael, would be of 12th and 13th c. date respectively. The source base today is insufficient in the author’s opinion to determine who issued these so-called Taman bracteates and when. The situation may change with new finds coming from archaeological contexts L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/85635/PDF/WA308_91703_P320_O-znaczeniu-archeolo_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - On the importance of the archaeological finds context also in the research of historians in connection with newer hypotheses about the attribution of the so-called Taman bracteates J2 - Archeologia Polski T. 63 (2018) PY - 2018 EP - 173 KW - Taman Peninsula KW - Tmutarakan’ KW - Taman bracteates KW - finds context KW - coins KW - modern fakes KW - dating KW - sign of the Rurikids A1 - Kollinger, Karol A2 - Zych, Iwona. The belt had a strap-end with engraved marks, among which the author has identified letters of the Glagolitic script and the bident sign of the Rurikids. The mark at the top of the right prong of the bident, once considered to be a cross, gave rise to the author’s original hypothesis that the bident represented Svyatopolk, son-in-law of king Boleslaus the Brave. The mark at the top of the prong has now been identified as the hammer of Mjölnir, a symbol of the Norse god Thor, leading the author to retract his original interpretation L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/85634/PDF/WA308_91702_P320_Znak-na-koncowce_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - Sign on the strap-end of a warrior’s belt from Bodzia. The discovery of mining shafts and underground galleries dating to the Neolithic period was a world sensation in 1867 and it initiated archaeological research into ancient mining in Belgium, Great Britain and other countries. Once the Neolithic remains of striped flint exploitation were discovered in 1922 in Krzemionki Opatowskie, the Spiennes shafts and flint workshops became an important point of reference for the mine in Polish territory. The prehistoric mine in Belgium was listed on the World Heritage List in 2000, confirming its exceptional importance. Now the Krzemionki Prehistoric Striped Flint Mining Region is in the running for the same recognition. In this context the article presents the history of archaeological research in Spiennes through the beginning of the 21st century L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/85631/PDF/WA308_91639_P320_Neolityczna-kopalnia_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - The Neolithic flint mine in Spiennes (Belgium). This text crucially challenges the bases of social sciences in general. It mainly analyses, from a unified perspective, the position of the observer, by highlighting that a poor understanding of this issue has contributed to social sciences’ struggle to acquire a scientific status. In this article these positions will be compared to those developed by Jean-Claude Passeron in his book Le raisonnement sociologique: l’espace non poppérien du raisonnement naturel, which at first glance are irreducible. Nonetheless these two approaches seem to be complementary. Passeron focuses his proposal on historicity but he is forced to treat secondarily the nomological aspect. His proposal sets out the non-Popperian character of historical approach. Testart centres his proposal on the nomological aspect but he is forced to consider secondarily the aspect of historicity. This opposition can be incorporated into our epistemological approach inspired by natural sciences L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/85629/PDF/WA308_91601_P320_Alain-Testart-and_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - Alain Testart et la réflexion épistémologique J2 - Alain Testart a refleksja epistemologiczna J2 - Archeologia Polski T. 63 (2018) PY - 2018 EP - 28 KW - Testart KW - Passeron KW - epistemology KW - nomological aspect KW - constructivism KW - physics A1 - Gallay, Alain A2 - Mazurié de Keroualian, Karoline.
