The present paper summarizes the results of archaeological and archaeometric studies carried out on two assemblages from different sectors and chronology. The first set of glasses was unearthed in a sector corresponding to a section of the city’s west wall. The level in which the glasses were found is dated from the mid 1st to the mid 2nd century AD. The second set of glasses comes from an area known as Casitas Ibéricas (4th-7th centuries AD). These glasses were found in ditches and pits, which had disturbed the more ancient archaeological levels. Most of the fragments in both sets represent blown glass. The archaeometric study concentrated on determining the chemical composition of a representative selection of glass fragments from the two chronological periods in order to observe possible differences between them. Chromophores responsible for glass colour were identified. Moreover, the state of conservation of the glasses was evaluated in order to determine the nature of degradation processes. The samples were studied using conventional optical microscopy (OM), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX), and visible spectrophotometry (VIS) M3 - Text J2 - Archaeologia Polona Vol. 45 (2007) PY - 2007 EP - 78 KW - glass KW - Roman period KW - archaeometry KW - chemical composition KW - colour KW - conservation state A1 - García-Heras, M. Sie sind im einzelnen nur schwer zu identifizieren. If this is so, the manner in which we discuss the sequence of blade production can be analysed in much the same way as any other narrative works of art, like Greek literature or Shakespearean drama. The article presents three stories about cores that were used for production of blades for tools during the Stone Age, examining the systematic sequence of actions (like the choice of the raw material, core preparation, blade production, repairs of core and discarding of the exhausted core) in the form of a 5-act dramatic structure. We suggest that these five parts or acts of drama are similar to the manner in which, in Stone Age archaeology, we talk about the knapping sequence and goals of blade production. Observation of three blade cores connected with the late Mesolithic and the Early and Middle Neolithic from the central part of Poland provides an opportunity for discussion about the features of those pieces and searching for similarities and differences in the use of “chocolate” flint during the latter part of the Stone Age L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/73276/PDF/WA308_88934_P356_Three-Stories-About_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - Archaeologia Polona Vol. 56 (2018) PY - 2018 EP - 78 KW - late Mesolithic KW - Linear Band pottery culture KW - Funnel Beaker culture KW - “chocolate” flint KW - blade core A1 - Płaza, Dominik Kacper A1 - Papiernik, Piotr PB - Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology Polish Academy of Sciences VL - 56 CY - Warszawa SP - 65 T1 - Three Stories About the Exploitation of “Chocolate” Flint During the Stone Age in Central Poland UR - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/dlibra/publication/edition/73276 ER - TY - GEN N1 - ill. ; 24 cm N2 - In the 1970s, the authors of this paper explored the Site 21b, situated in the north-western fringe of the Deir el‑Bahari Valley, in the Theban Massif (Upper Egypt). Based on the significant variability in the state of preservation of artefacts’ surfaces, six series of artefacts were identified, corresponding to the Middle Palaeolithic and Pre-Dynastic assemblages. The most detailed analysis was performed for the inventory of the series 2, which was ascribed to a previously unknown industry with the Levallois technique and Mousterian discoidal cores. This industry is also characterised by an occurrence of a specific manner of obtaining flakes from globular and thick, flattened, lens-like nodules, abundantly occurring in the local Lower Eocene limestone. This manner of flake production was called the Bahari technique. Due to the occurrence of sidescrapers, Mousterian points, denticulated and notched pieces, the chronology of this series was determined as Middle Palaeolithic L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/133591/PDF/WA308_167204_P357_Middle-palaeolithic_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - Archaeologia Polona Vol. 58 (2020) PY - 2020 EP - 78 KW - Theban Hills KW - Middle Palaeolithic KW - Bahari technique A1 - Drobniewicz, Barbara A1 - Ginter, Bolesław PB - Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology Polish Academy of Sciences VL - 58 CY - Warszawa SP - 63 T1 - The Middle Palaeolithic Assemblage with Bahari Technique from the Site 21b in Deir el‑Bahari (Western Thebes), Upper Egypt UR - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/dlibra/publication/edition/133591 ER -
