The analysis is based on materials collected among the owners of craftsman’s workshops located along one of the streets in the city of Łódź, namely Wschodnia Street. The street was laid out in the early 19th century, concurrently with the development of Łódź as an industrial town; by the outbreak of the 1st World War it had been filled with low-standard tenements containing rented lodgings on the upper levels and retail space on the ground floor. At the turn of the 19th century it was already a street of merchants and craftsmen, and it retained this outlook until the end of the 20th century. Today, it lies within an old, dilapidated and decaying area of Łódź, its residents are impecunious and the shops are closing L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/113595/PDF/WA308_141962_P714_Udomowianie-ulicy_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - Taming a street. On the basis of archeological and biblical data we can deduce the most important and common beliefs concerning the death and afterlife of population in this period. Through the ages we encounter here a number of burial customs. We show only the main funerary customs concerning the type of tombs, burial offerings or inscriptions. We show that the beliefs of the populations that inhabited the land of the Bible concerning the afterlife are strictly connected with the burial offerings. In each part of the paper we give some examples of actual cemetery, tombs or burial places of each historical period. Describing briefly the results of the excavations in the most important burial places we also show the characteristic features of each of these places. The discovery of mining shafts and underground galleries dating to the Neolithic period was a world sensation in 1867 and it initiated archaeological research into ancient mining in Belgium, Great Britain and other countries. Once the Neolithic remains of striped flint exploitation were discovered in 1922 in Krzemionki Opatowskie, the Spiennes shafts and flint workshops became an important point of reference for the mine in Polish territory. The prehistoric mine in Belgium was listed on the World Heritage List in 2000, confirming its exceptional importance. Now the Krzemionki Prehistoric Striped Flint Mining Region is in the running for the same recognition. In this context the article presents the history of archaeological research in Spiennes through the beginning of the 21st century L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/85631/PDF/WA308_91639_P320_Neolityczna-kopalnia_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - The Neolithic flint mine in Spiennes (Belgium). These characteristics are especially strongly represented in the Kuyavia region where the changes in the “Pikutkowo” set of characteristics define phases III B and III B–C of the FBC, dated to 3700–3200 BC. Relatively quickly, because already in the period 3700–3600 BC, “Pikutkowo” pottery appears not only in the Polish Lowlands (including Greater Poland and Central Poland, as well as in the Chełmno Land and the Gostynin Lake District), but also in the old upland areas located in the upper Vistula basin. The latest data indicate that at the same time “Pikutkowo” characteristics are also present in FBC assemblages from the Subcarpathian foothills, as well as from the upper Dniester. N2 - In the final centuries of the first half of the fourth millennium BC, “Pikutkowo” features were resent with varying intensity within the borders of the Vistula and Odra catchment area in the west and the Dniester drainage basin in the east. The authors argue that this wide distribution designates the “Pikutkowo stylistics space”, which was a zone of active circulation of cultural patterns within the FBC. The culture-forming potential of this zone is best confirmed by the phenomenon of the transfer of one of the key innovations at the time, i.e. copper (including arsenic copper) processing. This approach has made significant corrections to the dating of the Neolithic cultures in the Ukrainian steppe from the late 6th to the early 5th millennia calBC. The revision of the chronological position of some Surskoy Culture cemeteries (Vovnigi 3, Vovnigi 1, the first stage of Vilnyanka, the first and second stages of Yasinovatka 1) has resulted in more precise dates than previous estimates (about 5350-4950 calBC), and the latest date of occupation of the Surskoy Culture at sites in this region has likewise been revised to about 4900-4800 calBC. According the correction, period 1b of the Azov-Dnieper Culture is dated at about 5750-4900 calBC.
