TY - GEN N1 - ill. ; 25 cm N2 - The emergence of national states and establishing the Polish-Czech border on the Olza River was a consequence of World War I which concerned the inhabitants of Cieszyn Silesia. As a result, the region known as Zaolzie, which lies on the west bank of the Olza and is inhabited by Polish autochthons, was incorporated into Czechoslovakia. Currently this region is witnessing a symbolic „self-identification war” concerning the meanings ascribed by various communities to certain spaces, and thus also to history, historical figures and artefacts. This social process is apparent in the public discourse, in which negotiations of identity (e.g during the preparations for the national census) and outright conflicts concerning symbolic domination between the Polish autochthon minority and the Czech majority (e.g. raising memorials, publishing maps) are evident L1 - http://www.rcin.org.pl/iae/Content/54876/PDF/WA308_75310_P714_Autoidentyfikacja-ci_I.pdf M3 - Text J2 - Journal of Urban Ethnology 12 (2014) PY - 2014 EP - 84 KW - Cieszyn KW - Český Těšín KW - Cieszyn Silesia KW - borderland KW - identity KW - self-identification KW - public discourse KW - World War I A1 - Marcol, Katarzyna PB - Instytut Archeologii i Etnologii PAN VL - 12 CY - Kraków SP - 69 T1 - Autoidentyfikacja cieszyńskich Ślązaków we współczesnym dyskursie publicznym.
