His correspondence – today in the Goethe und Schiller Archiv in Weimar – with Wilhelm Froehner, a learned German fixed in Paris, provides us with a lot of information about his activities as a collector in Rome. Tyszkiewicz readily opened the door of his “museum” to scholars and any visitor wishing to admire his last purchases. He gladly lent his objects for public exhibitions. Some of them, of great scholarly interest, used to be presented at the Accademia dei Lincei in Rome and the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres in Paris. Besides, the collector entirely agreed that his objects should be published in scholarly periodicals. During the last five years of his life, in order to have the masterpieces of his archaeological collection better known, he financed and actively collaborated at preparing their catalogue in French. Finally, he published his Memories of an Old Collector in the Revue archéologique in Paris.}, type={Text}, title={Michel Tyszkiewicz (1828– 1897) à Rome : sa stratégie pour faire connaître sa collection archéologique}, keywords={Tyszkiewicz, Michał (1828-1897 ; collector, amateur archaeologist), archaeological interests in the 19th century, archaeological collections, ancient art collections}, }
