It describes the relations in categories of gift exchange since people who are alive have some obligation towards the departed. They should help them achieve Salvation. According to the teaching of the Catholic Church, all believers form a religious community which includes the earthly reality, souls in Purgatory and the community of the redeemed dwelling in heaven. All three ecumenes remain in deep contact, supporting each other by prayers.
