Investment activities are not a sufficient measure. To achieve a long-term effect, it is advisable to build social awareness of the historical value of spatial layouts. In addition to facilitating the preservation of valuable cul-tural landscapes thanks to social control, it allows for positive effects related to the well-being of the inhabi-tants. The role of museums in managing urban heritage is analyzed using the example of the activities of the Museum of Cracow.
