Abstract:

The aim of the study was to exam the ptential role of the thyroid hormones in postprandial thermogenesis. For this purpose postprandial thermogenesis in euthyroid and hypothyroid subjects were compared. Using the model for research on postprandial thermogenesis by measurements of energy expenditure during oral glucose tolerance and adrenergic responses to glucose intake was studied in euthyroid vs.hypothyroid subjects. In order to assess to what exetent the treatment restores diminished metabolic reactions, the measurements was also made in the group of subjects in long-term hormone replacement therapy.
