Abstract:

The article examines US policy toward economic reforms in Poland in 1989, with a specific focus on the role of the George H.W. Bush administration in implementing the Balcerowicz Plan. The author utilises archival materials from both American and Polish sources to highlight that Washington’s support for economic transformation was conditional, contingent on the implementa-tion of market reforms vital to Poland’s success.
