Abstract:

The aim of this article is to present the activities of Aleksander and Maria Maciesz during the period of the Partitions of Poland and the interwar period, with particular emphasis on their educational and social activities. The Macieszes were very active in Płock and its surroundings, cooperating with educational and scientific organisations. They initiated the creation of educational institutions and supported schoolchildren. The scientific activities of the Macieszes were also analysed, in particular that of Aleksander, who was a doctor. Their involvement included activity in the local history and ethnography movement, journalistic activity in local and national periodicals, popularisation of knowledge and dissemination of information on the cultural heritage of Płock.
