Description:

This paper presents the first recorded measures of resting metabolic rate and body temperature in the tenrec Limnogale mergulus Major, 1896. The preliminary results suggest that, although this is the only aquatic species within the family Tenrecidae, it does not maintain eighter resting metabolic rate or body temperature at an elevated level. Further studies of this rare, aquatic insectivore are recommended.
