Object description:

Photo (scan from slide). Photo taken in front of the entrance to the bridge over the Ganges River. The entrance leads to the left (considered sacred) bank of the river. It is an old bridge located in Lakshman Jhula, in the past (1980-1990) the only connection with the other bank apart from boats. The photo shows a long row of beggars sitting along the edge of the road leading to the bridge. Beggars collecting alms. Most of them had leprosy.
