Abstract:

Arranged marriage is the most popular type of intimate relationship in India. However, love marriages and informal relationships are on the rise among urban middle class. Unfortunately, anthropological scholarship rarely discusses the romantic love and its relation to social class. Even less common is researching on romantic love through participant observation. In this article, the author analyses the connections between various types of heterosexual relationships and social class. In other words, she discusses forms of cultural capital which play a role in partner selection, stability and endurance of the relationships
