Description:

Zespół fotografii zrobionych we wsiach w stanie Maharszta.

Object description:

Photo (scan from slide). Rural landscape inhabited by the Warli tribe. The villagers of Devgaon cultivate rice and raise animals. The photo shows a rice field surrounded by bounds during the dry season. In the foreground is the image of the deity, the guardian of the field, made of a piece of wood. The pin stands on the between and represents the male deity of the guardian of the fields, belonging to the pantheon of tribal deities. They can be treated as a place marked by an unearthly force, a kind of primitive shrine. The village is located in a monsoon zone, hence the predominance of rich vegetation, and during the rainy season, the fields are flooded by water. Photo taken in the dry season.
