Description:

Investigations carried through on brown rats (Rattus norvegicus Berk.) have proved that the animal’s skull grows till very old, age while the rate and the periods of growth of its particular elements are not the same (see tables and diagrams).Accordingly the author believes that it is wrong to treat the whole of the skull as a basis for taxonomic conclusions since its proportions vary in different life periods.
