Description:

Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis

Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Uraemia : Oedema cerebri sub forma necrosis oedematosae Jacobi. Atrophia corticis senilis. Arteriosclerosis minoris gradus.Autopsy examination of 73-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson staining. The oligodendroglia was unevenly dissected, the substrate having a spongy texture, converting to a field of necrotic thinning. Vascular spaces were wide, and within the basal ganglia, they were transformed into systems of vascular sinuses. Small symptomatic lymphocytic infiltrates were seen in the malacic fields. In the cortex, cellular thinning, diffuse in nature, was observed, particularly intensified in the frontal and central regions. Numerous cellular steatosis, chronic and sclerotic lesions were found in the thalamus. Mild atherosclerotic lesions were present in the vessels.
