Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis

Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Haemorrhagia secundaria in regione nucleorum basalium hemispheri sinistri. Status lacunaris. Autopsy examination of 24-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, Cresyl violet, Bielschowsky’s and Van Gieson's method. In the right frontal lobe small scars in a relatively small area were observed. That layer was several times thickened, uneven, the glium was arranged in layers at times. The vessels were hypertrophied, with swollen endothelium. Cellular atrophy was evident for the frontal, temporal, and ammonal cortex. Cellular disorders of ischemic type and severe steatosis were observed. Besides, single images of neuronophagia and glial clumps were seen. Purkinje cell atrophy was seen in the cerebellum. Features of edema and congestion were seen throughout the nervous system. Hypertrophied meninges with small infiltrates of lymphocyte-like cells were seen.
