Description:

Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis

Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Encephalomacia recens hemisphaerii dex. Arteriosclerosis gradu medicoris. Autopsy examination of 79-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with H-E, PAS and Van Gieson's method. In the right hemisphere of the superior parietal lobe, one large, fresh focus of malacia in the early macrophage decomposition stage was visible. The tissue in the focus was loosened and dissolved in places. It contained a reduced number of cellular elements. Single macrophages were occasionally present in the white and grey matter. Focal areas of incomplete necrosis were observed in the cortex. Preserved nerve cells showed features of ischemic disease and fatty degeneration. There were symptomatic infiltrates of lymphocytic cells around the vessels. Whole brain tissue revealed features of edema and congestion, Virchof-Robin spaces were dilated. Vitreous-fibrous vascular changes and atheromatous changes in large vessels were found
