Description:

Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis

Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Encephalopathia praecipue leukoencephalopathia toxica? /ureamica?/ Autopsy examination of 41-year-old was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and Cresyl violet. No inflammatory changes were found in the specimens. In the white matter, a fairly uniform concentration of the glia was observed. The vessels showed sclerotic lesions, with large transudates. Often hemosiderin deposits were found in perivascular spaces. In some places, brain tissue structure was loosened. Large vacuoles were observed in the cortex, mostly perivascular. The meninges were edematous and a slight increase in the number of lymphocytic cells was observed. The picture may correspond to a uremic encephalopathy or an encephalopathic reaction in the course of a generalized infectious disease.
