Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis

Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia recens in reg. corpus fornieris status lacunaris. Autopsy examination of 72-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with H-E and Van Gieson's method. In the specimen from the basal ganglia at the level of the anterior visual thalamus, there was a focus of malacia in the early dissection stage. The tissue was spongy in some places. Single perivascular cavities were present in the striatum. Isomorphic gliosis was visible in the inner pouch and partially in the white matter, in addition to a large epydymal glial reaction. Cell loss and chronic disease were observed in the ganglion cortex. The vessels were fibrotic, the ventricular system was significantly dilated.Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia recens in reg. corpus fornieris status lacunaris. Atrophia cerebri at hydrocephalia internus. Arteriosclerosis cerebri»
