Abstract:

Samples of suspended matter were collected by Staplex apparates in 20 locations from January toJune 1988. Averaged samples for each month and measuring point were extracted for 7 hours withcyclohexane in Soxhlet apparatus. The crude extract of suspended matter was divided into 6 subfractionsby Sequential Elution Solvent Chromatography. GC-MS technique revealed that fraction 1 consisted of nparafins from C^s fo C35 and fraction 2 of policyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). The concentrations of15 PAHs in samples of suspended matter were determined. In winter samples the concentrations of PAHswere higher than in summer. The highest concentrations were found in a central highly industrialized partof Silesia. The concentrations of B[a]P exceeded many times the admissible level in all samples.
