Description:

Electron microscopy analysis of the heart biopsy

Subject and Keywords:

Left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy (LVNC)

Abstract:

A myocardial biopsy from 24-years-old patient with left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy (LVNC) was performed.Electronmicroscopy analysis revealed ultrastructurally altered muscle fibers characterized by disorganized, scattered myofibrils and numerous vacuolar structures. Focally complete loss of myofibrilwas observed. Mitochondria were characterized by a bright mitochondrial matrix and lack of mitochondrial cristae (Fig. 1).Disorganized arrangement of myofibrils and focally their total atrophy as well as abnormalmitochondria containing dark, electron-dense structures in their interior (Figs. 2,3).
