Abstract:

The response of a unity-feedback system with a delay element in the forward path exhibits a periodic component that can be approximated by truncating its harmonic expansion. Rational approximants of the transfer function exp(-Ts) of such element can simply be obtained from this closed-loop approximation. A unifying approach to recent methods based on this criterion is presented, which allows us to point out their respective features. The standard Padé technique and a heuristic method are also conaidered.
