Description:

Muscle segment examination in light & electon microscopy

Subject and Keywords:

Miopatia mitochondrialna

Abstract:

A 58-year-old patient was examined. A biceps sinister biopsy was performed. Electronmicroscopy analysis revealed muscle fibers of normal diameter, characterized by preserved miofibrils structure and normal sub-membranously located nuclei. Unchanged mitochondria as well as mitochondria characterized by blurred or devoid of cristae were observed. Numerous fat droplets were seen. Ultrastructural image suggests palmitoyltransferase deficiency. Biochemical evaluation of carnitine palmitoyltransferase in the muscle tissue was performed and the result was 0,55 nM/mgB/min. (Norm 6,5-18 nM/mgB/min.).
