The study is set in context by a brief description of circumstances between the end of World War One and the Treaty of Riga in March 1921, which had a profound influence on the attitudes of the people from Polesia. The Polesia Province within the borders of reborn Poland was an area of fierce competition between Belarusian, Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian national movements. A clear breakthrough within this competition took place at the turn of 1933.
