 abstract={The present text is devoted to an analysis of titles of Brzeg dukes in two hundred documents they issued between 1352 and 1479, which were entered in the fifteenth-century cartulary entitled Codex Vindobonensis Palatinus. The conclusions drawn from the analysis indicate that the majority of titles of the dukes were used depending on the content of the document, precisely on the community and provincial district (Weichbild), it concerned (the so-called Weichbild titles). It follows that the intitulation was related more closely to the legal aspect of the document’s content rather than the political one, and thus that conclusions drawn on the basis of titles in reference to the political divisions are often unjustified.},
