 abstract={The article utilizes biographical interviews recorded and collected by the Oral History Archive of the Warsaw Rising Museum. Out of 5 000 accounts, the author chose 622 that included references to the return to Warsaw after its liberation and the end of World War II. The article focuses on such issues as collecting information on the situation in Warsaw and Poland in general, the decision to return, the return itself, attitudes towards the new government and activities related to it (disclosing one’s membership in the Home Army or keeping it secret, harassment by the authorities, emigration or participation in the „second underground”), finding one’s home in Warsaw, contacting one’s family and friends, renovating or rebuilding one’s flat, looking for a job, starting up of commerce, opening of schools and universities, rebuilding the city transport, opening of first theatres and cinemas, finally the enthusiasm related to rebuilding and re-birth of the city.},
