Status lacunaris.Autopsy examination of 74-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method.Hemorrhagic masses usually well demarcated from the surrounding area were found in the white matter of the inferior frontal gyrus. The border was mostly clusters of macrophages filled with hemosiderin. In other areas, significant vascular proliferation was observed in the vicinity of the hemorrhage; in others, the adjacent tissue showed almost no reaction. In the medial part of the hemorrhagic focus, a small adjacent area of diffuse necrosis was observed. In places, stimulated astrocytic glia in the form of mast cells was visible in the vicinity. There were cavities of necrotic altered tissue around several larger vessels. The vessels showed signs of atherosclerosis in the form of vitreous and fibrous changes and calcifications. In the area of the basal nuclei single, free lying lumps of calcium with intense dark blue staining were found.
