Haemorrhagia subarachnoidealis. Arteriosclerosis med. grad. Atrophia cerebri senilis. Status lacunaris. Autopsy examination of 82-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation i n light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, Heidenhain and Van Gieson's method.The specimens were taken from the hemisphere spared by the hemorrhage described in the macroscopic protocol. The cortex was significantly thinned in all areas, in some places with obliteration of the layered structure. In the central, parietal and insula regions, areas of spongiosis were visible. Moderate diffuse gliosis was seen throughout. Marked fading of myelin with preservation of U-fibers was observed. The spongy changes involved the white matter and the area of the black matter in the midbrain. Marked peripheral gliosis with gemistocytic reaction was seen. In the cerebellum, there was marked thinning of the granular layer and segmentally Purkinje cells and Bergman glia. Cell thinning was also observed in the medulla oblongata. Extravasated blood was present in the subarachnoid space and ventricular lumen. The vessels were mostly thin-walled, with fibrous and vitreous changes, and numerous vascular loops were present. In the basal nuclei, more vitreous vessels with thickened walls and narrowed lumen were found. There was a complete lack of perivascular infiltration.}, }
