 abstract={The article contains an edition of letters written by the historians Aleksander (1916-1999) and Irena (1914-1999) Gieysztor in 1937-1939 to their teacher Marceli Handelsman (1882-1945). The letters are a contribution to the biography of the young Gieysztors. They reveal their everyday life and then their thoughts and feelings. The first ones relate to Aleksander’s military service, but a majority of them was written from Paris (October 1938 - July 1939). They shed light not only on their Parisian life and studies, but also show the French and Polish intellectual and scholarly life in the last months before the outbreak of war.},
