It distinguishes three categories of members – rank-and-file members, activists, and functionaries – and traces their evolution from a revolutionary to a bureaucratic model. Key turning points include the Stalinist period, the political thaw of 1956, the 1970s, and the post-1980 crisis. The study demonstrates the transition from totalitarian mobilisation to post-totalitarian authoritarianism, in which party membership gradually lost its ideologi-cal dimension and became an instrument of social adaptation and career advancement. The article focuses on the relationship between ideological declarations and social practice, highlighting the role of rituals, discipline, and mechanisms of control.}, title={Partia i jej ludzie.
