 abstract={The article examines the 1940 testimony of Julian Suski, the Bydgoszcz district head, as one of the most important Polish sources on the events of 3–4 September 1939, known as the “Bloody Sunday of Bydgoszcz”. The study analyses its origin, political and propaganda context, and compares it with Suski’s later memoirs from 1982. The 1940 report, prepared for the Polish authorities-in-exile, is of special value because it was drafted imme-diately after the events, providing unique insights into the actions of the civil and military authorities and into social mood. At the same time, it reflects Suski’s intention to defend the Polish position against German propaganda and therefore requires critical assessment.},
