 abstract={The “Europe 2020” strategy introduces the concept of “smart growth” in response to the effects of financial crisis and the challenges of globalisation. Priority will be given to development based on knowledge and innovation (smart growth), balanced sustainable growth, and this will be consistent with social, economic and territorial (inclusive growth) criteria. The author evaluates development opportunities and the advantages of the Polish countryside based on these premises. She focuses on a new approach that integrates the dimensions of space with aspects of knowledge and experience. This indicates a return to cultural assets and their inspiration for the concept of smart growth.},
