During last 10 years the number of organic farms has increased by more than 1000%. The authors try to assess whether the well developed, market oriented and formally organized organic farming might become a factor of local development. Based on the research carried out in 2013 and covering five microregions, the authors demonstrate when and under what circumstances organic farming may improve the social and economic condition of farmers, as well as the situation of the areas with important role of organic agricultural sector.
