 abstract={The author analyzes the current state of family farming around the world. Faced with the multifaceted diversity of family farms, she indicates the challenges in shaping a definition of a phenomenon whose gist is the connection - mainly labor-based - between families and agricultural holdings. Basing on literature and FAO statistics, she draws a contemporary, diverse picture of family farms in the modern world, as well as their economic, environmental, and social functions. This serves as a general background for a concise description of family farms in Poland, indicating the need for analysis, chiefly of their latent functions and dysfunctions.},
