The biotechnologies aimed at the improvement of feeds are applied to: plant breeding (e.g. grain amino acid composition, elimination of antinutritional constituents from legume seeds), silage production (e.g. bacterial inocuiants as silage additives), delignification of lignocellulosics (e.g. lignolytic bacteria and white rot fungi) and development of bacterial strains for production of essential amino acids (lysine). The second group of new technologies is aimed at the improvement in digestion and absorption of nutrients. These technologies include: addition of bacterial and fungal enzyme preparations to non-ruminant feeds (e.g. /3- glucanase), indirect manipulation of rumen fermentation using selective ionophores as feed antibiotics and genetic manipulation of rumen fermentation, using genetically engineered rumen bacteria, expressing desired traits. Finally, nutritional implications (nutrient requirements) resulting from hormonal (GH, reGH) stimulation of animal productivity (enhanced milk production, growth, wool growth), are considered}, title={Applications of biotechnology in animal nutrition}, type={Text}, URL={http://www.rcin.org.pl/Content/186003/PDF/POZN271_220527_biotechnologia-1990-no3-2-pisulewski.pdf}, keywords={biotechnology}, }
