Abstract:

W polskiej i zagranicznej literaturze geomorfologicznej pojawia się niekiedy określenie „skalne miasto”, stosowane zwłaszcza do opisu rzeźby erozyjno-denudacyjnej w skałach piaskowcowych. Termin ten, w Polsce używany między innymi w odniesieniu do zespołów form skalnych w Górach Stołowych, nie został nigdy formalnie zdefiniowany i często jest przytaczany w cudzysłowie, co wskazuje na wątpliwości, czy jest to określenie ścisłe czy potoczne. W artykule została zaproponowana definicja skalnego miasta jako pełnoprawnego terminu naukowego, omówiono także uwarunkowania litologiczno-strukturalne takiego typu rzeźby oraz procesy odpowiedzialne za tworzenie i rozwój skalnych miast.
