TY - GEN N1 - 24 cm N2 - Landscape-oriented education taking into consideration regional assets and cultural determinants plays a specialrole in the formation ofrural areas. A survey research conducted among students of Spatial Management, Landscape Architecture as well as Tourism and Recreation revealed differences in their perception of rural cultural landscape depending on the field of study. Students demonstrated gaps in their knowledge of cultural landscape, which could have a detrimental effect on their interpretation and formation of rural space in the future. A comparative analysis of "ideal countryside" essays and credit papers concerning conceptions of land development showed that it was necessary to exchange knowledge and experiences of students representing various fields (e.g. via inter-school workshops, common practices/field classes, project exhibitions). The research conducted and analysis of the syllabuses concerning the three selected fields have proven that landscape formation, especially in rural areas, should be taught as a separate field of study because the relevant knowledge imparted in the present form may become vague. Today, it is emphasised that urban land in agricultural use performs not only productive and economic functions, but also many more functions of great importance to a city, including ecological, health- and landscape-related, recreational, and social ones. In Poland, after the period of economic and political transformation, one can observe a dynamic expansion of urban areas and their strong pressure on farmland most valuable in productive and landscape terms. In conceptions and documents on spatial development of urbanised areas, agricultural functions tend to be marginalised or perceived as specific to rural areas. A special form of urban horticulture is gardening, including allotment gardens, which have a rich tradition and a history more than a hundred years long. The reasons for the appearance and development of allotment gardens should be sought in socio-economic changes associated with the industrialisation period. What is alarming today, is the opinion that those plots of land supposedly restrict the spatial development of urbanised areas. In addition to their numerous socio-economic functions, allotments are an important element in the implementation of the idea of sustainable development, and as such they should play a special role in the spatial policy of urban areas. The main goal of this paper is to present the development of family allotment gardens in Poland and their current number, structure and location in the Poznań agglomeration. An attempt was made to formulate recommendations for a spatial policy of the agglomeration and towards this goal data obtained from Polish Association of Allotment Holders and Central Statistical Office was analysed. In addition, field studies and survey research were conducted. Those are the areas which experience a lot of pressure on account of the development of such functions as tourism, recreation and housing and their related services, which is closely associated with intensive outdoor advertising. The Lednica Cultural Park is an example of such area. This research sought to identify the scale of problems caused by the presence of advertisements in the study area. The results include the selection of places most heavily degraded by advertising, and the identification of tendencies in the way ads are located, their forms, areas, impact on the environment, and perception. The conclusions can help in defining the rules and conditions for managing public and private spaces in the rural areas for use in an advertising policy. Given the explosive transformation of the modern countryside, there is an urgent need to find effective tools and methods to protect its cultural heritage. This protection cannot be limited to "freezing" historical forms; it should involve proactive measures affecting the quality of the landscape and the functionality of those areas, which can significantly increase their development potential. The relevant landscape research was conducted in the Długa Goślina village in the Wielkopolska Province. After identifying resources of the village's cultural landscape and determining state of their behaviour and analysing planning documents, an attempt was made to identify the opportunities and the threats to the area’s development. The aim of the research was to identify activities within the framework of village renewal, as potential development scenarios, possibly also implemented in other settlement units. Długa Goślina has features typical of a Wielkopolska village: the agricultural function limited to residential and service functions, which causes a deformation of the historical village pattern. But in terms of resources, its cultural landscape has a considerable diversity of values, which when properly interpreted and developed, can be an important basis of local development. For the village under study, preliminary conservation works were proposed. Once the public accepts these activities and effective implementation of them, it will be possible to prepare a scenario for the development of cultural tourism. Given the functioning of agricultural holdings and close market, optional or parallel development would be based on the concept of organic farming. It seems that the proposed development directions for Długa Goślina have a universal character and, when properly adapted to the local conditions prevailing in other settlements, can be used in village renewal projects in Wielkopolska. Intense urbanization of suburban areas makes them more exposed to rapid loss of these resources than in the case of units located peripherally. In this context, the identification of the existing values in the suburban communes as well as their protection with the use of planning tools seem to be more important. The aim of this study was to identify the level of awareness of landscape resources in the communes of the Poznań agglomeration and confrontation between methods of space management and provisions in municipal spatial policy documents. As an example three communes were selected: Dopiewo, Tarnowo Podgórne and Stęszew - located in the western part of the Poznan County, in the area of intensive development of suburban settlements. The paper focused on the analysis of natural and landscape resources, with particular emphasis on forest areas and water reservoirs. Research was undertaken to recognize changes in the land use model and its dynamics in the vicinity of these areas, which in communes’ spatial planning documents are often described as the most valuable from the point of view of existing resources. There were clearly defined differences in the spatial policies of individual communes in the context of the conservation of these resources.
