 abstract={In this article I try to show how the nationality classification used by the state administration apparatus can affect the nature of the ethnic phenomena. As an example, I describe the Andryushkino settlement, located in the Olerinska Tundra in the north-eastern part of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). The settlement’s residents include among others, Eveny and Yukaghirs. The process through which these former members of the nomadic tundra families began to identify with nationalities will expose the complexity of the substratum of today’s ethnic structure of northern Siberia and emphasize the importance of specific local factors determining the impact of the nationality categories introduced by the State},
